Ġorġ Mallia

Author, cartoonist and communications academic

I'm not a philately buff, but when, at the end of the nineties, I was called in by the National Post Office's philately department to design what was to be the first "funny cartoon" stamp, in what was scheduled to be the Tourism set, I just could not refuse. There was a bit of an uproar among the die-hard conservative stamp collectors, but the stamp set proved to be a roaring success, going into many printings. This led to two more sets, one for Christmas, and one about traditional Maltese musical instruments that went on to win an international prize. I'm reproducing here the leaflets that Maltapost issued with each stamp set to give an idea of what each set was about. The text won't be very legible, but they're here for the images, so that's what you should look at.
