The Malta Book Fair 2012

The Book Fair this year was visited by a record 20,000 visitors. Among the distinguished visitors were the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr Lawrence Gonzi and his wife Catherine (here seen admiring the book installation "Valanga ta' Kliem" by Danish artist Marie Louise Kold), the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Joseph Muscat and his wife Michelle, the Archbishop of Malta, Mons. Paul Cremona, the President of the Republic of Malta, Dr George Abela, and Ministers of Education and Culture, respectively Dolores Cristina and Dr Mario DeMarco.

Opening of the Malta Book Fair 2012

Launch of Avventura Madwar l-Ewropa

On October 24, the book intended for all ten year olds in the Maltese Islands, Avventura Madwar l-Ewropa was launched. The book is intended to introduce the EU to school children. It was written by Loranne Vella and produced and illustrated by Ġorġ Mallia. The launch, at Pembroke Primary School, was presided by Martin Bugelli, Head of EU Commission Representation in Malta, and the Hon. Minister of Education, Dolores Cristina

Annual talk at the Serieskolan

On September 7, 2012, Dr Ġorġ Mallia gave his annual talk to the first years of the Malm÷ School of Comic Art to an enthusiastic group of students who were instructed to caricature the lecturer as he spoke. The perpetrator and one of the driving forces behind the school and comics scholarship in Sweden is Fredrik Str÷mberg (left).

International Conference on Information, Communication Technologies in Education, Rhodes, 2012

The ICICTE conference, held annualy on a Greek Island, was this year held between the 4 and 7 July, 2012 on Rhodes. Dr Ġorġ Mallia chaired the Publications and Promotions Committee, was the Communications Coordinator, designed the website, proceedings and all the printed materials, and also chaired a session. Here his is seen with Nancy Pyrini (conference director), Professor Kostas Tsolakidis of the University of the Aegean, and Dr Chris Barlow (chair of the conference steering committee) at the closing of the conference.

Presentation of Literature for Adolescents Prize, 2012

The Honourable Clyde Puli, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, Ms Miriam Theuma, head of the Youth Agency, and Dr Ġorġ Mallia, chairman of the National Book Council, presented the prizes for this year's Literature for Adolescents Prize at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity on World Book Day, April 23, 2012. Lectures at the University of Malm÷, K3

In February and March, 2012 Dr Ġorġ Mallia gave a full unit on Graphic Design (history, typography, desktop publishing) as a guest lecturer at the University of Malm÷, department of Art, Culture and Communications. This was part of the Image Making course given at the University.
